DIVERTICULOSIS Solution

DIVERTICULOSIS Solution & Example

With age, your muscles can weaken and become less able to push waste along. Diverticulosis occurs when pouches, called diverticulitis, protrude through weak spots in your colon.
  • Increase your fibre intake. Foods such as wheat bran, wholegrain products and fresh fruits and vegetable can help keep your stools soft and easier to pass.
  • Increase fluids; drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water a day.
  • If a pouch becomes inflamed or infected ( a condition called diverticulitis), your doctor may recommend a low –fibre diet but only temporarily.
  • Once the inflammation clears, slowly switch back to a high – fibre diet. It is no longer believed that seeds or other high – fibre particles lodge in pouches and cause inflammation.
