A leak bladder with damp undergarments and your fear of odor this causes can keep you housebound.

Urinary incontinence is a symptom, usually of lax muscles tone, not a disease. It can ruin your social life, if you let it.

  • Temporarily cut down on your fluids, particularly before going to bed.
  • Avoid alcohol as is relaxes the sphincter muscle that controls the bladder.
  • Avoid caffeine and grapefruit juice, as they are well known diuretics.
  • Drink cranberry juice.
  • Constipation can contribute to incontinence.
  • Stop smoking. Nicotine irritates the bladder.
  • Keep your weight under control.
  • Empty your bladder regularly.
  • Be prepared. Wear an absorbent pad or undergarment while you retrain your sphincter muscle.
